Why We’re a K-8 School:
A Strategic Structure for Success

Benedict Day School is proud to be a private K-8 school. This educational model reflects our belief in nurturing the whole child, fostering long-term relationships, and providing the right foundation at every stage of development.
Being a private K-8 school lets us create a learning experience that is deeply personal, intentionally structured, and community-driven.
Continuity and Connection: Our students benefit from years of consistent academic guidance and social-emotional support. Teachers and administrators know each child as well as they know their own families.
Leadership in Action: Middle schoolers aren’t overshadowed by high school students. Instead, they take center stage as role models, mentors, and student leaders. Recent research shows that students enrolled in K-8 schools consistently perform better than their peers at other schools.
Tailored Curriculum and Character Formation: Our teachers use the state Common Core standards coupled with uniquely designed Conceptual Units to create a one-of-a-kind curriculum. Our goal is to maintain state standards while also keeping students excited and engaged.
A Safe and Supportive Transition to Adolescence: Middle school is a time of rapid growth. In our close-knit environment, students navigate these years with confidence, guided by trusted adults and surrounded by a loving community.
Stronger Academic Success: Benedict students take on challenging material, often a grade level above the statewide standards, but our teachers work hard to ensure every child receives the support needed to excel.
How We Learn

At BDS, “good enough” is not acceptable. We believe children deserve the best education possible – one that is enjoyable and immersive. The foundation of our learning relies on positive mindsets and strength identification. For others, classroom management is mostly achieved through negative reinforcement, which as a result, hinders the student’s confidence and ability to be socially comfortable. Ensuring the success of our students means the modern-day school must strive to identify the strengths of its students. For BDS, we understand there are many types of learners and utilize a variety of teaching styles to enrich the learning experience.
Classroom Sizes:
A Thoughtful Alternative to the Traditional Model
We cap class sizes at sixteen students. Smaller class sizes allow teachers to understand each student’s unique strengths and challenges, both academically and socially. Every student receives careful, compassionate attention, and this personalized care empowers them to reach their fullest potential.
Technology at BDS
With technology advancing rapidly and a staple of our day-to-day activities, we believe it is essential for our students to have a high level of technological fluency. That’s why we created a state-of-the-art Virtual Reality Lab that allows for hands-on learning. Through this, we inspire students to become builders, programmers, designers, artists, storytellers, and creative thinkers.
